Fuel & Gasoline
What fuel grades does ShellGas offer at its stations?
ShellGas offers four fuel grades at all locations: Regular Unleaded (87 octane), Mid-Grade Plus (89 octane), Premium (93 octane), and Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel. All our fuels contain our proprietary cleaning additive technology that helps prevent engine deposit buildup, improves combustion efficiency, and can improve your fuel economy by up to 2%. Select locations also offer E15, E85, and renewable diesel blends.
What makes your premium fuel different from competitors?
Our premium fuel features our exclusive Dynaflex cleaning technology, which provides up to 7 times the cleaning power of the minimum EPA requirements. The fuel contains nitrogen-enriched cleaning agents that actively remove existing engine deposits and prevent new ones from forming. Independent testing shows our premium fuel can restore up to 100% of lost engine performance in vehicles with deposit-related issues within the first 5,000 miles of use.
How are fuel prices determined at your stations?
Fuel prices are influenced by several factors: the global crude oil price (which typically accounts for about 50% of what you pay at the pump), federal and state taxes (roughly 15-20%), refining costs (about 15%), and distribution, marketing, and retail margins (the remaining 15-20%). Prices can vary by region due to different state tax rates, transportation costs from refineries, and local competition. We strive to offer competitive prices at every location.
Does premium fuel really make a difference in my car?
If your vehicle's manufacturer recommends or requires premium fuel, then yes, using premium fuel will optimize your engine's performance, fuel economy, and longevity. Vehicles with high-compression or turbocharged engines benefit most from higher-octane fuel. If your vehicle is designed for regular fuel, using premium won't damage it but likely won't provide significant performance benefits. Always check your owner's manual for the recommended fuel grade.
EV Charging
How do I use your EV charging stations?
Using our EV chargers is simple: 1) Download our mobile app and create a free account; 2) Use the app to locate an available charger near you; 3) Navigate to the station and plug in your vehicle; 4) Tap your phone or RFID card on the charger to start the session; 5) When finished, end the session in the app and unplug. Payment is automatically processed through your stored payment method. Most of our DC fast chargers can add 200 miles of range in just 15-20 minutes.
What types of EV connectors do you support?
Our charging network supports all major EV connector standards: CCS (Combined Charging System) for most modern EVs including BMW, Ford, GM, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes, and VW; CHAdeMO for Nissan Leaf and older models; Tesla NACS connectors at many locations; and Type 2/J1772 for Level 2 AC charging. Our newest chargers are equipped with both CCS and NACS connectors to serve the widest range of vehicles.
How much does EV charging cost?
Pricing varies by location and charging speed: DC fast charging typically costs $0.35-$0.50 per kWh, while Level 2 AC charging is usually $0.15-$0.25 per kWh. Members of our charging subscription plan get reduced rates of $0.25/kWh for DC fast charging. For context, charging an average EV from 20% to 80% on a DC fast charger costs approximately $15-$25, compared to $35-$50 to fill a comparable gasoline vehicle's tank.
Fleet Solutions
How do I sign up for a fleet fuel card?
Signing up for a fleet card is easy. Visit our fleet solutions page or call our dedicated fleet team at 1-800-555-FLEET. You'll need to provide basic business information, estimated monthly fuel volume, and the number of vehicles in your fleet. Most applications are approved within 2-3 business days, and cards are shipped within a week. There's no annual fee, and you can order additional cards at any time as your fleet grows.
What discounts are available for fleet customers?
Fleet discounts are based on monthly volume: 500-2,000 gallons receives 2 cents/gallon off, 2,001-10,000 gallons receives 4 cents/gallon off, and 10,001+ gallons receives up to 6 cents/gallon off. Additional rebates may be available through our annual volume bonus program. Fleet customers also receive free access to our fleet management dashboard, driver ID PIN protection, and customizable spending limits per card.
Motor Oils & Lubricants
How often should I change my motor oil?
The recommended oil change interval depends on your vehicle, driving conditions, and the type of oil used. Modern full synthetic oils can typically last 7,500 to 10,000 miles or 12 months between changes. Conventional oils should be changed every 3,000-5,000 miles. However, always follow your vehicle manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule, as severe driving conditions (frequent short trips, dusty environments, towing, or extreme temperatures) may require more frequent changes.
What oil grade is right for my vehicle?
The correct oil viscosity grade is specified in your vehicle's owner's manual. Common grades include 0W-20 (many modern sedans and hybrids), 5W-20 (Ford, Honda, many domestic vehicles), 5W-30 (most common all-purpose grade), and 5W-40 (European vehicles, turbocharged engines). Using the wrong viscosity can affect engine protection and fuel economy. If you're unsure, our product selector tool on our website can help you find the right oil for your specific vehicle make, model, and year.
Sustainability & Environment
What is your net-zero emissions target?
ShellGas has committed to achieving net-zero emissions from our operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 2050, with an interim target of reducing operational emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 2016 levels. We are also working to reduce the carbon intensity of the energy products we sell (Scope 3) by 30% by 2035. Our strategy includes investing $25 billion in renewable energy, carbon capture, green hydrogen, and nature-based carbon offset projects.
Do you offer carbon offset programs for customers?
Yes, we offer several carbon offset options. Through our app, customers can opt to offset the carbon emissions from their fuel purchases for an additional 1-2 cents per gallon. These offsets fund verified nature-based projects including reforestation in Brazil, mangrove restoration in Indonesia, and renewable energy projects in developing nations. All our offset credits are certified by Gold Standard or Verra and are independently verified.
